Was Hitler a Christian? The idea is promoted in a great deal of anti-Christian literature: Hitler was a Catholic. He invoked God. He saw himself as doing God’s justice.
The claim, however, is merely grabbing at sociological titles rather than a true understanding of either the nature of Christianity or Hitler’s intent. That is, one cannot say Hitler was a “Christian” just because he claimed the title. The true essence of an identity is found in its external and internal behavior.
